Fixed Bid vs Hourly When Requirements Are Fuzzy

Fixed bid on a foggy scope is a donation. Hourly on a crystal scope can feel like you are milking. Match the contract to the fog.

Fuzzy: hourly or a small discovery fee, then a bid. Clear: a bid with a change path. I have lost money pretending a fog was a map.

I write what happens if we hit a wall: pause, re-estimate, or cut scope. If that paragraph is missing, one of us will feel cheated.

Caps can be kind

A not-to-exceed with a punch list protects a nervous client without me eating infinite weeks. When we hit the cap, we talk. We do not silently sprint.

I do not bid against a fantasy RFP

If the document describes three products, I bid on one or I walk. Winning a fantasy is a loss with extra steps.
