I look for repeated typing, repeated hunting, repeated radios. Those are software-shaped. I am more careful with "make people care" and "make the vendor behave."

A good problem has a before/after you can time. A bad problem has a slogan.

Say the non-goal

"This will not fix overtime by itself." That sentence has saved me from being the magic wand. I can still help. I will not lie.

Small needles add up

A 40-second label save at volume is a real needle. A vague AI layer on a healthy barcode process is not.
